Running a Property Portfolio as a Business

Nova Financial Ltd featured in Property Question Time on the Property Sky Channel 198

Our Managing Director Paul Mahoney on the Expert Panel:

Bonnie Bilson: She says, “As a landlord, I want to run my properties as a business in such a way that they can be a profitable month on month, but by employing people to help me run the business I can reduce the tax liability. Is this a common way for landlords to work when they’ve got more than a couple of properties?”

Bonnie Bilson: . Do either of you have any advice on whether there’s a time you think’s appropriate to employ other people?

Paul Mahoney: Well just one point on what Tony said there, the strong logic in that I think applies to a range of other business and investment issues is that tax decision. I think the question was around should they employ people for tax efficiency? And you shouldn’t really do anything for tax efficiency. It should be about the investment or what makes sense as a business case and then tax at comes after that.
