Paul Mahoney: |
Hi, I’m Paul Mahoney, managing director of Nova Financial. As many of you know, we’re an independent property and finance advisory company, and today I’m going to talk to you about some recent comments from Ian Duncan Smith, an MP for the Conservative Party. |
He was commenting on the Section 24 changes and essentially, the overall way that landlords are being treated by the government, saying that it’s unfair. And I really couldn’t agree more. And then the case what he was saying really was landlords are the main driver of new supply in a majorly under-supplied housing market. Now, he’s also spoken about potential incentives the government could offer to incentivize landlords to invest in new build properties. And this is something I’ve been saying for an awful long time is that we do need to incentivize more funding for new build properties. Make it more attractive to investors, so that we can hit our target of 300,000 new properties per annum, rather than the current average of around 150,000. |
