Tell-Tale Signs that You're Bad with Money - Nova

Many of us struggle to keep a handle on our finances from time to time, with new expenditures and demands bringing a sense of uncertainty as we move through life. But if you find your financial insecurity stretching out ahead of you, then perhaps you’re struggling to control your relationship with money. Here are a few of the tell-tale signs:

You Never Budget
Planning and sticking to a budget are two of the most important life skills anyone can learn and mastering them as soon as possible helps set your financial future on a more secure footing. This doesn’t have to mean being particularly frugal – but if you have no way of keeping track of your budget it’s a sign that things are off the rails in your financial life.

You Constantly Rely on Credit
Credit cards can be very helpful when it comes to building a credit score – they can also of course offer a reliable way to pay for items up-front when a debit card simply will not do. However, if you find it hard to make your credit card payments, this is another sign that you need to reconsider your approach to personal finance.

You Spend More Than You Earn
This can simply be called ‘living outside your means’, and for many it’s a constant struggle. Once you realise that you are overspending when you should be more cautious and frugal, it’s a sign that something in your financial life needs to change, fast.

Bills Worry You Every Month
None of us enjoy paying our bills, but if they concern or surprise you when they arrive, then this is a sign your finances could be a little out of control.

You Can’t Wait Until Pay-Day
Always extra happy when pay day rolls around? This is a worrying sign, as it suggests you don’t have any financial buffer between you and everything from emergencies to everyday expenses. Whether you’re dashing to pay the bills as soon as the money comes in or settling your debts – relying on this one day of the month demonstrates a troubling approach to money.

You Worry About Money
If you find yourself constantly stressed about your finances, that’s a sure sign that something needs to change. Nobody should lie awake worrying about their finances – so if that sounds like you, consider seeing an independent financial advisor to get some impartial advice aimed at helping you recover a brighter financial future.
